Top Hiking Trails on Camano Island for Every Skill Level

One of the best parts about living on—or visiting—Camano Island is easy access to nature. With stunning views of Puget Sound, evergreen forests, and abundant wildlife, the island is a hiker’s dream. Whether you’re looking for a family-friendly walk or a more challenging trek, Camano has trails for every skill level. Here are some of the top spots to explore:

Easy Trails

Camano Ridge Trail
A gentle, forested trail perfect for beginners or those just looking for a peaceful walk. The loop is about 1.5 miles, making it great for families with kids or anyone wanting a quick escape into nature.

Elger Bay Preserve
This preserve offers flat, shaded trails through wetlands and woodlands. It’s ideal for birdwatching and short walks with young kids or older hikers.

English Boom Historical Park
Located on the northeast side of the island, this trail is less about elevation and more about the views. It’s a flat walk along the shoreline with interpretive signs sharing the history of Camano’s logging past. Great for strollers, wheelchairs, or a sunset stroll.

Moderate Trails

Cama Beach State Park Trails
This park has several moderate trails that wind through forests and down to the waterfront cabins. The Marine Loop Trail offers a mix of wooded paths and beach access, perfect for a half-day adventure.

Barnum Point Preserve
One of Camano’s gems, Barnum Point features trails through meadows, forests, and along bluffs with sweeping views of Port Susan Bay. Moderate in difficulty, this is a must-see for locals and visitors alike.

Iverson Spit Preserve
Known for its “Hobbit Trail,” Iverson Spit combines forest walks with beach access. It’s an easy-to-moderate hike depending on which loop you take, and kids love the whimsical feel of the Hobbit Trail.

Challenging Trails

Camano Island State Park
For those looking for more of a workout, the State Park offers several trails with steeper sections and longer loops. The Camano Ridge and Bluff Trails provide elevation gain and rewarding views, making them great for more experienced hikers.

Kristoferson Creek Habitat Trail
Located near the zipline park, this trail offers a mix of steep climbs and forested terrain. It’s less traveled, making it a quiet but more demanding hike.

Camano Island’s trails offer something for everyone—whether you want a flat shoreline stroll, a moderate forest loop, or a challenging climb with views. With so many options, you can pick a trail that matches your mood, energy, or skill level. Lace up your hiking boots, pack some water, and go explore the natural beauty of Camano Island!
